The scale model of Rome is a plaster model of about 70 square metres (11m*6m). Its scale being 1/400, the model represents 3/5 of the city as it was when Constantine was its Emperor, at the beginning of the fourth century. Its creator, architect Paul Bigot (born in Orbec,1870-died in Paris,1942) was awarded the Grand Prize of Rome in 1900 and he devoted most of his life to this reconstruction of Rome. The model, which is listed as an ancient monument, was donated to the University of Caen and accepted by the MRSH when it was established in 1995. It is there that after its restoration, the model was set up. It has become a kind of symbol and now that it can be found on the internet, the model is internationally accessible.
