Welcome
The 8th International Conference on Tidal Environments – Tidalites 2012 – will be held in
Caen, Normandy, NW France.
The conference will take place from July 31 to August 2, 2012, at the
University of Caen.
Pre-conference (July 28-30) and post-conference
field trips (August 3-5) are proposed on modern tidal systems and ancient tidal basins.
Caen is worldwide known as the city of
William the Conqueror, 7th Duke of Normandy (1035-1087), first Norman King of England.
The celebrity of Caen is due also to its location close to the D-Day Beaches and as one of the main strategic points of the
battle of Normandy in June 1944.
The coastal area of Caen is bordered by
the Channel (La Manche), one of the best-known tide-dominated shelves around the world.
The conference is organized by the
Laboratory of Coastal and Continental Morphodynamics (UMR M2C CNRS – University of Caen research lab). One of our main research topics is the study of modern and Holocene tide-dominated sedimentary environments. We develop our researchs mainly on the basis of in situ measurements, field works and flume modelling.
