From east to west (following the route of the Via Sacra): The Forum is a composite assemblage in which structures dating from the Empire are superimposed upon those of the republican epoch (many times rebuilt). Symbolizing the transition between the two periods, the Forum is divided in the center by the Temple of the Deified Julius, built by Augustus on the spot where the funeral pyre of Caesar had stood.
