Le Havre was
founded in 1517 by king Francois the 1st and has replaced Seine
harbours that were silting up. An international trading place since
it was created, Le Havre is now a great maritime and port city open
onto the world. Bathed in the special light of the Seine estuary
which was so inspirational for the Impressionists, is full of contrasts
and emotions. It is also a starting point to visit Normandy , either
along the "Alabaster Coast" to Etretat and Fécamp
or across the Normandy Bridge to Honfleur, Deauville and Cabourg.
Due to the unique location of the city centre on the seaside, life
in Le Havre is punctuated by all kinds of water sports and activities
: swimming, sailing, boat rides.
